Good news from near and far, gathered with Fossoway values in mind
Good morning from Fossoway Stables ... a place where we grow, nurture, restore, learn, play, and build community. Each week, we’ll gather stories of hope and progress from around the world ... ones that reflect our values of NURTURE, HARMONY & SUSTAINABILITY ... and share them with you over your morning cuppa or Monday commute.
In this first edition, you’ll find stories of ecological restoration, education reform, and grassroots action. May they inspire ideas, conversation, and small steps forward in your own corner of the world.
🌱 This Week’s Curated Highlights
1. A New GCSE Brings Natural History into the Classroom
In England and Wales, the Department for Education has confirmed the launch of a GCSE in Natural History, allowing students to study species, habitats, and ecosystems (including bats, newts, and spiders). This feels deeply in sync with our mission of giving young people not just facts, but the language, curiosity, and respect to engage with the natural world. Imagine a generation for whom nature is as familiar a subject as maths or literature.
2. Volunteer Tree-Planting Unites Community in Nagpur
On Global Ismaili CIVIC Day, volunteers in Nagpur, India planted 101 saplings across public spaces ... though just a small act, it's part of a wider commitment (Roots for Change) aiming to plant millions globally. This kind of local, hands-in-the-soil action is exactly the kind of energy we want to spotlight ... everyday people choosing to nurture the earth around them.
3. Regional Tech Funding Lifts Rural Innovation in the UK
The UK government has committed £1 million to a Regional Tech Booster programme intended to seed growth, entrepreneurship, and education in under-invested areas including rural Scotland. We see this as a bridge between leisure, learning, and sustainability ... tech solutions created locally, not imported from afar.
4. Rewilding in Scotland: A Shift in Stewardship
BrewDog has sold its Kinrara estate in the Highlands, purchased originally as a rewilding investment, to Oxygen Conservation, a rewilding-focused organisation. While the motives and outcomes are complex, the move signals something interesting ... rewilding is maturing, moving from private experiments to conservation-led stewardship. It's a reminder that sustainable landscapes are living, evolving partnerships, not fixed assets.
🪴 Reflection from Fossoway
Reading across these stories, two threads stand out to us ...
Education is the soil in which change grows ... whether it’s a new natural history GCSE or tech funding in rural areas, equipping people with knowledge, agency, and confidence matters more than any single project. At Fossoway, when we teach, host, open conversations, we are embedding resilience.
Restoration is neither fast nor simple ... but we’re building momentum. From planting saplings to handing over land for conservation, change often comes in small acts. The challenge is keeping faith between planting and seeing roots deepen. We hope we can use Fossoway as a micro-laboratory ... a place to test, learn, fail, adjust, and regenerate.
🧭 How This Could Ripple Here
What if we invited local students to a “Nature Spotlight” walk, mapping species and changes across Fossoway grounds?
Could we partner with a tech or maker group (even small scale) so that local innovation gets a breathing space?
Could we start a “sapling adoption” plan ... folks in the community sponsoring young trees around the stables or nearby hedgerows?
✨ Parting Thought
In a fast-moving world, it’s tempting to see only what’s lost. But The Harmony Report is a reminder that seeds of progress are sprouting everywhere. Our job is simple but vital ... to notice them, learn from them, and carry their energy into our own patch of earth.
Thank you for reading. Here’s to a week of nurture, harmony and small sustainable steps ... together.
With gratitude from Fossoway, The Harmony Report Team xx
