OUR CORE VALUES: Nurture as a way of being

Here at Fossoway Stables, our whole operation is run with 3 core values in mind - HARMONY, NURTURE and SUSTAINABILITY. We agreed upon these concepts as a family when we started out on this big adventure and we use them, now more than ever, to guide our practice, develop our understanding and build our ethos.
In this series of blog posts "Our Core Values" we share with you why these concepts are so important to us, what we've done so far to honour them, how we plan to continue to live with them as our guides and practical ways in which you can embed them in your lives too.
Today, we're looking at NURTURE.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
At Fossoway Stables, nurture is more than an action. It’s a way of being ... slow, intentional, and deeply human.
We live in a world that often prizes speed, output, and performance. But here, tucked into the rhythm of the seasons and the quiet wisdom of the land, we try to listen to something gentler. To nurture is to care deeply ... for people, for place, for potential ... and to act with that care at the centre.
Nurturing People
Whether it’s welcoming families to our children’s nursery, sharing food at The Potting Shed, or inviting someone in for a stay in The Lodge at Fossoway Stables, our hope is that Fossoway feels like an exhale. A place to land.
We believe in nurturing the individual ... their growth, their creativity, their confidence. That’s why we run our kids' clubs and host fiddle weekends, record podcasts that explore what really matters, and sit around the table long after the meal is finished. We nurture by listening, by encouraging, by showing up again and again with warmth and curiosity.
Nurturing Land
Living close to the earth invites a different kind of relationship with it. One rooted in reciprocity. We tend our gardens organically and regeneratively and plant new woodland not just for beauty or yield, but because we’re building something we’ll never fully see the end of. The animals all get fed before us. The compost gets turned. The hedgerows are left wild on purpose.
To nurture the land is to treat it not as a resource to be used, but as a living system to be understood and cared for with patience, respect, and awe.
Nurturing Ideas
So much of what we do at Fossoway started as a half-formed idea scribbled in a notebook or spoken out loud on a walk. The market garden. The stables. The podcast. None of it arrived fully formed.
We believe in giving space for ideas to breathe. In trusting the process, not rushing it. In building slowly, steadily, bravely. To nurture ideas is to protect them from the noise and let them grow in their own time.
Nurturing Community
Whether you live down the road or follow along online, we hope you feel a sense of belonging here. Fossoway is, at its heart, a shared space shaped by the people who pass through, the conversations we hold, and the values we return to again and again.
Nurture is in the cup of tea offered without being asked. It’s in the extra chair pulled round the fire. It’s in the way we make room for each other, for our continued learning, for beauty and for rest.
In choosing to nurture, we choose to slow down. We choose care over control, listening over loudness, and roots over rush.
Thanks for being here with us.
